This particular painting was supposed to be a custom pet portrait, but there was an imprinted wave-like pattern in the surface. Rather than discarding the pastel board, I thought the unexpected pattern would lend itself well to a water scene. Around my home are several ponds filled with lily pads. Those imprinted lines captured the movement created by the wind and life in and around those lily pads in such a unique way that I couldn’t have created with the pastels alone. It reminded me of how God takes life’s interruptions and heartache, even our imperfections, and creates something beautiful. We can trust Him because He is faithful.
